FAQ’s & Resources

Can I bring my dog or pet?

Unfortunately the answer is a firm no. Due to the nature of our rural location we frequently have packs of wild dogs and boars come through the property. This poses a risk of attack for pets and they are not permitted to be kept in the house due to guest allergy and cleanliness issues. We also have our horses on the property and while our farm dogs are working bred and cattle trained we understand that most pets may not respect livestock potentially causing life threatning injuries to themselves. We also have abundant wildlife in the area which we do like to protect as best as we can.

What about the fireplace?

We supply all firewood, firestarters and matches for your stay. We ask that you put the fire out prior to retiring to bed for the night as it has a tendency to smoulder filling the house with smoke. The best way to enjoy the indoor fireplace is to ensure it is set fully alight and the fire is hot initially. Firewood for the outdoor firepit can be found in the carport, the outdoor firepit can be found at the front of the house.

Should I pack anything in particular?

During winter (April-October) you will want to bring some warm outer layers and socks/slippers to wear at night. Temperatures can get down to below zero during the middle of winter with occasional frosts. In summer make sure you bring your swimmers to frequent the beautiful swimming holes we have locally. Some slip on shoes like slides or thongs are valuable when staying at the Highlands house as due to the lush red volcanic soil we ask everyone take their shoes off to enter the house.
