The Home

The Highlands House is a thoughtfully restored 1980s farmhouse which transports you to the quieter analogue days of the past.

The house built in 1980 is the epitome of highlands rural life, nestled in beside the gum trees and bunya pines, the wrap around verandah gives every room in the home a country view. The home has recently been extensively renovated and while rustic and staying true to the era new life has been breathed into it with a few modern luxuries. The large verandah at the back is the perfect place for an early morning coffee, bbq feast with friends or just to enjoy a beer while taking in the sweeping views of the paddocks which lead down to the creek. There are three double bedrooms in the main house, the main bathroom and a separate toilet. All bedrooms have comfortable high-end bedding and linen as well as integrated power point usb chargers. The attached studio accommodates another 4 guests if needed with the king-sized bed and double sofabed. This space has another bathroom and a “true-flame” electric fireplace heater. Due to several non-child-friendly features the Highlands House is not suitable for children under 8 years old. Please also note that bedrooms are dependant on guest numbers and rooms not required for the reservation may be locked. The living area boasts cathedral timber lined ceilings with silky oak beams and are only outshone by the central open fireplace (firewood provided) and olive-green leather chesterfield sofas which paired with a whisky (or a wine!) transform chilly winter nights into the ultimate old school luxury experience. A smart TV with Netflix access, Board games and a collation of iconic Australian literature are available from the antique sideboard in the reading nook as well as the mini libraries in bedrooms 3 and 4. The kitchen has stayed true to it’s original roots and retained it’s dark timber lined walls and rustic open shelving. Due to the original design not able to accommodate a dishwasher we encourage our guests to use this time to slow down and enjoy the view out the kitchen window of the wallabies, birds and treescape whilst doing the dishes. The modern French door fridge with icemaker, induction stove with electric oven, large black franke sink with pull out kitchen tap and Breville oracle touch coffee machine more than make up for this minor modern inconvenience. As the wind can be an experience in and of itself in our area – outdoor electric blinds have been fitted to the back verandah to ensure the area can be used in less than perfect weather. The laundry is appointed with the most reliable speed queen washer and dryer making this mundane task a pleasure.

Guest Access

The property is located 10 minutes from Herberton on sealed road until our driveway. The driveway is marked by a Avodah Estate sign. You may also note the lane street sign – Ingrids Ave.

Check in is encouraged from 3pm onwards. The house can be accessed through a provided code on the electronic lock on the back door., earlier only by prior arrangement. Keys to access the separate studio if needed will be left on the kitchen table.

Interaction with Guests

The entire acre around the homestead is dedicated to guest’s privacy. There are cameras on the driveway which will note guest vehicles entry and exit to the property. The farm sheds and outbuildings away from the house also have security cameras. The owners and/or care takers are on the property as the property is still in the process of being restored, so be prepared to see farmwork being done during some days however every effort is made to limit any interaction and afford our guests the peace and privacy of this beautiful place.
